#3 BYU has put a big dent in the national playoff aspirations of #24 Air Force with a dominant 54-10 victory Saturday in Provo, UT.

The Cougars led 19-10 at the main break and eventually ran in eight tries to carry the day.

BYU controlled the set pieces and enjoyed a glut of possession which set them on the way to the W. Conversely, Air Force wasn’t able to get much going in the way of offense, particularly in the backs where they were found wanting.

Skipper Steve St Pierre had another blinder and scored a hat-trick of tries. Apenisa Malani dotted down twice, while Grant Barnes, Mike Su’a, and Jacob Sohn rounded out the Cougars’ scoring.

The Zoomies were restricted to a solitary converted try and a penalty goal.

“At the end of the day we put them away, but they’re a good side,” BYU head coach David Smyth told ARN. “They’re a big physical team, but this is probably the best we’ve played all year.”

The win took BYU’s overall record to 10-1, while Air Force fell to 3-3.

Air Force next plays Nebraska in the first round of the Western championships in two weeks' time.
