The scores were all locked up at 10-10 at the half, but CU tallied 32 unanswered points in the second stanza to punch their ticket to Ft Worth, TX, in two weeks.
Wyoming had the wind at their back in the first half and used it to their advantage to jump out to a 10-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, CU kept the ball in hand in the second quarter and evened things up by oranges.
The second forty was pretty much one-way traffic with the Buffaloes directing most of the motion. Their All-Star player Max DeAchaval again kept the scoreboard ticking over with three conversions, a penalty goal and a drop goal.
Dan Murphy also put his stamp on the game, just his second match back from injury, with a try, while wing Tim Curtis (2), Charlie Euwema, Tom Fitz, and Charlie Burns all added tries.
“I think when we had the wind with us in the second half we forced Wyoming to play a running game against the wind and that took it out of them,” Colorado head coach Sean Edris told ARN.
The win improved CU’s overall record to 9-2, while the Cowboys fell to 4-2.
Colorado is due to play #7 LSU in one semifinal at the Western championships. The winner of that will face the winner of the other semi between #24 Air Force and #23 Nebraska to determine who gets the West’s two seeds for the Round of 16.
