Despite the icy grip on much of the East Coast, matches were played Saturday in the Florida League with ranked teams UF and FSU posting victories.

#12 Florida shut out South Florida 47-0, while #25 Florida State beat Florida Atlantic 31-19.

Both wins were on the road.

Even though it’s still early in the season, both teams appear to be on a collision course to meet in a playoff game to determine the Florida champion and the state’s only seed for the South’s playoffs later in the spring.

Meantime, the Carolinas League has rejigged its schedule in an effort to squeeze in the postponed matches from the past two weekends.

Games have been slated for next Saturday and Sunday, as well as the following Tuesday.

Elsewhere, #9 Arkansas State beat the Dallas Harlequins men's team 34-7.

Roland Evans, Clint Whitler and David Caswell all had stellar games for the Red Wolves.

"Our defense was excellent today only giving up a late try in the second half when the subs were in," Arkansas State head coach Matt Huckaby told ARN.
