#14 Kutztown put up a good fight for three quarters and then ran out of steam against a very fit Life University side Tuesday night in Atlanta, GA.

The final score was 56-22, although it was 23-22 after 50 minutes.

The Running Eagles, who had three All-Americans and a national Sevens squad member in their undergraduate lineup, led narrowly 17-16 at halftime.

Notables for Life included Garret Lambert, who played well at #8 with some strong tackling, lock Tyler Salomon, who competed well in the lineouts and had some good runs, as did All-American flanker Paul Bester and flyhalf Benny Mateialona.

“It was really rewarding to watch the young guys get a chance to compete against their peers," said Life director of rugby Dan Payne.

"What makes it that much more enjoyable is that they were able to do so with a program that has such a respected history and reputation in Kutztown. Doc Jones (KU head coach) has put in a lot of hard yards toward growing and promoting the game in our country."

This was just the third game for KU since coming out of their winter hibernation and their lack of match fitness was a telling factor.

“We ran out of gas and they ran away with it in the last quarter,” Kutztown head coach Doc Jones told ARN, “but I’m not unhappy with how the boys played.”

KU is on a swing through the South that will see them play men’s Division I club the Atlanta Renegades on Thursday.

The ‘Gades reportedly are not taking that game lightly and plan to field their full side.
