A couple of make-up games were played Tuesday night in different parts of the country that saw ranked teams Texas A&M and South Carolina post victories.

In the rescheduled Texas Conference matchup between A&M and Sam Houston State, the Aggies bounced back to form with a 67-7 win against the Bearcats.

Texas A&M was coming off the back of two straight losses at the Las Vegas Invitational, while Sam Houston State hadn’t played a game since the third week of November.

The match had been scheduled for February 6 in Huntsville, TX, but was pushed back and rescheduled to be played in College Station due to bad weather.

The Bearcats are due to play LSU this weekend, followed by a rematch with Texas A&M the following week.

“We’ll see how the boys respond, but after tonight I’m thinking it may take us longer than expected to rebuild,” Sam Houston State head coach Frank Rizzo told ARN.

Meantime, in Columbia, SC, the Gamecocks met a spirited Appalachian State side that gave USC all it could handle before the home team prevailed 7-3 in another rescheduled game.

Played in very cold conditions brought about by the continuing wintry grip on the eastern seaboard, the contest turned into a defensive struggle.

USC scored first in the fifth minute when center Peter Boland fielded a kick on the Appalachian State 40 meter line. Boland cut through the defense, beating four defenders along the way and scored next to the posts.

The conversion by Cullen Clair was successful and apart from an Appalachian State penalty goal, there was no further scoring.

“It was a tough, hard game and great defense by both sides throughout,” said South Carolina head coach Geoff Mason.

It was USC’s second match in three days.

The Gamecocks remain undefeated in Carolinas League play with two wins and a tie.
