Sunday in Raleigh, NC, there was some bonus rugby in the Carolinas Rugby League.

Thanks to recent weather, Appalachian State was in town for a make-up with NC State.

The stakes were high for each club. NC State needed to win to keep pace with recently hot North Carolina, while Appalachian State had to win to stay relevant on the League table.

As it turns out, the home team prevailed and remained undefeated on the year, eking out a 13-11 victory.

The win keeps the unlikely Division II school tied with Division I rival North Carolina atop the CRL standings.

Each team has two more games to establish themselves as the regular season champs for the newly formed league.

Not to be forgotten is South Carolina, who at 2-0-1, also have a shot at the top spot.

League standings:
NC State (3-0-1) 15 pts
North Carolina (3-1) 15 pts
South Carolina (2-0-1) 10 pts
Appalachian State (1-3) 7 pts
Clemson (1-2) 6 pts
Wake Forest (1-3) 5 pts
East Carolina (0-2) 1 pt

There was also rugby in the Southeastern Conference this weekend.

On Saturday, three road teams prevailed as Tennessee traveled to Mississippi State and won 51-13, Vanderbilt beat Auburn 15-12 and Georgia prevailed over Ole Miss 35-10.

In other makeup games Sunday, Georgia went to Auburn and shut them out 33-0, while Tennessee finished out a road trip by hanging up an 80-0 victory at Alabama.
