In the SEC, Vanderbilt has a pretty tight lock on the Division 2 competition. In the meantime, Alabama and Ole Miss are both fighting for the second and final D2 playoff spot. The two met for a match at Ole Miss Saturday afternoon.
The game was defensive on both sides with Ole Miss taking an early 5-0 lead.
Alabama utilized their back line and answered with a penalty conversion and a try of their own to take an 8-5 lead.
However, on this day, Ole Miss was not to be denied and came back to score the game’s final try in the second half for a tight 10-8 victory.
With the win, Ole Miss has gone a long way toward clinching the SEC’s final Division 2 playoff berth.
Also in the SEC, Auburn traveled to Mississippi State and the home team won by a count of 22-8.
In the northeast on Friday night, Rutgers opened up their spring campaign with a 24-10 victory over St Josephs in Piscataway, NJ.
Their head coach, Ken Halligan told ARN that, “although the forwards dominated the scoring line for Rutgers, both flyhalf Evan Fitzgerald and captain/fullback Eric Danneman had numerous long breaks to set the table.”
ARN readers will recall that Rutgers is the latest entrant to the MARFU Premier League college competition that takes place in the fall.
