Kutztown v Rutgers
Despite Tropical Storm Hanna rolling into the northeast on Sunday, a collegiate preseason game was played between Kutztown and Rutgers.

The match had originally been scheduled for Saturday, but was rescheduled because of Hanna, which brought high winds, heavy rain, and oppressive humidity.

KU eventually won 53-24 after leading 24-17 at the half. Seven points separated the two teams through the 53rd minute, at which point the Golden Bears put the hammer down and took control.

Kutztown ran in nine tries with hooker Chris Pettine, flanker Jim Fitzgerald, and freshman winger Tim Acker leading the way with two touch downs each.

“The Rutgers forwards did an excellent job in the first half while the Scarlet Knights' flyhalf caused a great deal of pressure with booming up and unders inside the Kutztown red zone,” KU head coach Doc Jones told ARN.

“However, the second half proved all Kutztown as the Golden Bears settled into a rhythm that produced 24 points in the last forty minutes, while shutting down the Scarlet Knights.”

Rutgers try-scorers included eightman Frank Zoris, captain and hooker Bryan Blutstein, center Kamil Ryczko, and flyhalf Johannes Cronje. Cronje also booted two conversions. A week earlier, Rutgers opened their season with a 15-10 win against West Chester.

Tropical Storm Hanna did, however, force the scrapping of a scheduled match Saturday between Delaware and UPenn in Newark, DE.

And despite the heavy downpours up and down the east coast, West Chester and Maryland managed to play their scheduled contest Saturday with WCU posting a 27-12 decision.

In other college action, Dartmouth won the Granite Cup with a 51-3 victory over Keene State. In a 50-minute game, the Big Green ran in eight tries.

Dartmouth head coach Alex Magleby noted, "It’s great to see such improvement over the last couple of years in the likes of Plymouth State, Keene State, and Franklin Pierce. For the first time in the history of this Cup, you had some really organized New Hampshire teams across the board.”

Earlier in the weekend, Utah opened its fall season with a doubleheader against Wyoming and Air Force. The Cowboys won their contest 24-20, but the Utes bounced back to beat the Zoomies 12-6 the following day.

And on Friday night, Division II school Bentley College hosted Boston College and the home team won 19-10. Bentley led 12-0 at halftime.
