It's September and that means fall divisional college games are underway and Vassar traveled to Stony Brook to open their 2007/08 season. The Brewers expected to face a fierce physical challenge from the Long Island, NY, school, and that they did, however, Vassar settled matters early in the second half and just like the 2006/07 team they finished convincing 55-10 winners.

Stony Brook kicked off and as Vassar captain Garrett King rose and caught the ball he was hit in the air and felled like a falling redwood. A penalty was awarded to Vassar for tackling a player while in the air. In the next 10 minutes Stony Brook conceded 14 penalties blatantly diving into and over the rucks, jumping offside, and committing late tackles.

Vassar put over rookie wing Connor O'Neill after a couple of well timed passes and that made it 19-0. A fourth try from King and another conversion gave Vassar a 26-0 lead midway through the first half before Stony Brook got on the board. The Sea Wolves elected to kick a penalty to close the gap a smidgen to 26-3 and then after rookie O'Neill deliberately, but unknowingly, knocked the ball on in-goal they scored from a short penalty making it 26-10 at the half.

It was critical that Vassar work hard in the opening 20 minutes of the second half to kill off the game. To their credit they did and were rewarded with a try as the forwards drove over and Dan Kalmus scored. O'Neill and Chris Magnani scored their second tries and Vassar was up 41-10. Fullback Stefan Schwartz and center James Cantres scored the last two tries of the day.

Elsewhere, Albright College continued a fine warm-up to their Division II season by winning the Liberty Cup in Philadelphia. After dispatching DI sides Princeton, East Stroudsburg and Millersville in the early rounds, Albright then beat Shippensburg 28-7 in the semifinals to set up a meeting with the University of Pennsylvania in the final.

The decider ended up being a close affair with Albright prevailing 14-5.
