And in the New York State Conference new boys St Bonaventure beat Buffalo in their first ever match in Division I.
On opening day in the Mid-Atlantic Premier League, Delaware made the trek to Kutztown, PA, and after falling behind early stormed home to beat KU 20-13.
Down 10-0 at the half, UD scored four second half tries by Jimmy Kowalski (2), captain Mike ‘Chief’ Levin and Tom Malone to finish over the top of their hosts. Dirk Scheepers got Kutztown’s lone try.
“I think maybe our conditioning helped us,” Delaware head coach Bjorn Haglid told ARN.
“We didn’t play well, they did so good for them,” added Kutztown head coach Gregg Jones.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Navy upset Rutgers’ debut with a 24-15 victory Friday night in Piscataway, NJ.
The Midshipmen led 14-3 at the main break. Rutgers got on the board early via a Mike Beal penalty goal before Navy found the right gear to put in two scores, both by Thomas Magnuson.
Two more second half tries, one by Andrew Szoch, had Navy in front by 24-3. Rutgers replied late when Tim Andre and Evan Fitzgerald went in to close out the scoring.

In the other league match, Penn State earned a bonus point with a 26-10 victory over Virginia Tech. Kevin Kimble (2), Jim Rosato and Jake Thuma got on the scoresheet. Joe Baker converted three of the four tries.
The brand new Ivy League kicked off on Saturday and the Big Green slayed the Big Red 91-3 in Ithaca, NY. Cornell simply had no answer to Dartmouth’s onslaught. Derek Fish scored 41 of his team’s points.
Players and coaches were mindful of the day’s historic nature, hoping to renew an old tradition within the Ancient Eight.
“The Ivy League has high-level rugby with teams like Dartmouth and Harvard, but the conference will allow improving teams like Cornell, Columbia, and Brown to get to that level too,” said Cornell co-captain Benja Davies.
Cornell's other co-captain Carlos Arbelaez added, “The new conference will someday produce teams that can compete against teams on the West Coast [like Cal and BYU].”
In the other Saturday matches Harvard blanked UPenn 44-0 and Yale beat Princeton 34-10. Brown and Columbia were scheduled for a late game.
In order to get all the matches in during the season, the Ivy League will have a couple of doubleheader weekends, this being the first.
The two top teams at the end of the regular season will earn berths in the NRU playoffs later in the fall.
In the New York State Premier Division, Brockport blew out Cortland 83-3. Travis Pufpaff (5) led the way for the Doggies, while Brendan Jenks went 9-from-12 on conversions.
Syracuse bounced back from its opening round loss to tune Albany 76-36, while St Bonaventure beat Buffalo 33-22 against the odds. Bonaventure is newly promoted to DI this season and this was their very first game at the higher level.
And in the South, Arkansas State welcomed the Atlanta Renegades men's team to Jonesboro and blasted them 51-12.
