American Rugby News is pleased to announce that Colorado head coach Sean Edris has been voted the 2008 ARN college coach of the year.

Colorado had what can only be described as a stellar season.

Edris guided the Buffaloes through their most successful season in recent years, which culminated in an appearance in the Big 4.

CU hadn't been this far since 1985, and our panel felt that the coach was deserving of a lot of the credit for having taken his team to these heights.

“I’m very honored, thank you, I appreciate that, it’s very kind,” coach Edris told ARN. “This was a good run for us, we played some very tough teams.”

Colorado punched above their weight to reach the national semifinals, particularly during the spring in which they beat BYU and then Kansas State, Wyoming, LSU and Air Force just to qualify for the Round of 16.

The Buffs then went on to knock off Utah and Penn State to advance to the Big 4.

“We wound up 0-4 in our league two falls ago and then we made a commitment a year ago last spring to go out and play all the teams that had beaten us. And then we went to a men’s tournament in Galveston and we just started playing from there.

“We had a good run in the fall losing a very close game to Wyoming but beating Air Force, CSU, and New Mexico and we just redoubled the efforts and we were lucky that there was a wildcard and we beat some good teams this spring.”

This is the second year that we have named an ARN college coach of the year and the vote was unanimous.

We would like to congratulate Sean Edris on being named our 2008 coach of the year, and we also want to give props to all of the players on the Buffaloes’ roster who were part of the team’s run to the national championships.

Job well done coach Edris and CU.
