Both teams had a lot to play for as Florida was out to prove they belong on the top half of the South table and Clemson was still searching for their first league win.
It didn’t take long at all for the Gators to take control of the match, scoring early and often and rarely giving up possession. By halftime the tally was Florida 40 Clemson 0.
Florida head coach Ken Simmons had this to say to ARN. “We really wanted to prove we were at least third best in this league. I’m very proud of our unselfish play, and the way we were able to spread the ball around.”
Things were no different in the second half as Florida continued to score at will. Overall nine different Gators scored tries and the final score was in their favor 101-0.
Simmons added, “After our slow start, we’re happy to have turned things around.” This is Florida’s third straight win after starting the season 1-2.
The coach was especially happy for his seniors who lost to Clemson by a similarly lopsided tally 113-5 in their freshman year.
After hanging this big score on Clemson, the Gators still have a non-league grudge match against Division II Florida State in two weeks.
