CU is one of only two college teams that have beaten the Cougs in the last two years and the Buffaloes are on another roll.
In the spring of 2008, BYU took a road trip to Colorado and after beating Colorado State on the Friday night; they continued on to Boulder to back up against CU less than 24 hours later and were beaten.
Colorado made it to the Big Four that year where they were handled by BYU in their rematch, before BYU fell to Cal in the national championship game. That was the last time the Cougars were beaten by a collegiate side.
So far this season, BYU (8-1) has dropped just one game, that being to the Denver Barbarians, while CU (12-3) has been consistent since winning the Jackalope tournament back in the fall. Their defeats coming against the Glendale Raptors, Utah and Arizona.
As for this Saturday’s matchup, just because BYU has already secured the overall #1 seed for the Round of 16 and just because they have a Friday night game, don’t think for a moment that they will be asleep at the wheel - they won't be.
The flipside is that Colorado has an opportunity, albeit a very slender one, to repeat its feat of ’08 although back then they had that man Maximo DeAchaval calling the shots.
These days he’s the Barbos’ playmaker, which might just explain that BYU result last month in Denver.
