Rutgers stayed close and trailed 17-5 at the mid-point.
Continuous Kutztown miscues combined with Rutgers’ pressure, allowed the visitors to rally and take a 23-20 lead with under 15 minutes to go.
KU was desperate for a spark and got it when All-American center Marco Barnard displayed his versatility and moved from outside center to scrumhalf.
At that point, he took control of the Golden Bear attack and led Kutztown to a 26 point explosion in the last ten minutes.
Meantime, fellow Mid-Atlantic team Delaware ended its season on a high by beating Boston College 55-5 in Boston. UD led 36-0 at the half.
Freshman prop Chris Mullin, who scored two tries, was outstanding on defense, while outside center Mike Defamio played well and was rewarded with a try.
Flyhalf and backs captain Pat Goldring handled his leadership role with aplomb.
“We pretty much dominated the game from beginning to end,” Delaware head coach Bjorn Haglid told ARN.
