The Big Green and Hammerheads took care of Rutgers and Harvard respectively.
Dartmouth shut out Rutgers 29-0 after leading 17-0 at the break.
“We’re still proud of our season,” Rutgers captain Bryan Blutstein told ARN. “Dartmouth is just a great team and they played well. We gave them everything we had, but they were better on the day.”
In the other semi, Syracuse got by Harvard 36-25. The Hammerheads were in front at the half by 18-8. the Crimson staged a strong come back in the second frame, but just fell a little short.
Syracuse tries were scored by Dave Bliss (2), Brian Goldstein, Dave Delany, and Steve Patch, who played a captain’s knock to lead his side to the victory.
“It was a very competitive game played in very trying conditions,” said Syracuse head coach Bob Wilson. “In the end I think the forward play is really what made the difference.”
The winner of the Dartmouth-Syracuse game will earn the Northeast’s #2 seed for the national Round of Sixteen next spring. Army, after winning the New England conference, has already secured the NRU’s top seed.
