It was a wet day and the weather a factor at the Syracuse Cortland game. The slop caused quite a few dropped balls, but slippery as it may have been, the Hammerheads kept a hold on the game winning 50–0.
“There’s no excuse for dropping the ball,” said Rich Gallina, “because we have the athletes and more importantly we have the rugby players. We are not looking past any teams, which I think happened last week and the Albany game was too close.”
Last week was a close call, but Syracuse deserves a pat on the back for the clean sweep on the scoreboard. Halftime score was 10-0, which means forty points went on the board in forty minutes flat.
Albany and Binghamton have both lost one game and won two.
The second win for Albany came today against Cornell, the actual score is yet to be reported but Cornell did not score during the eighty minutes of play.
Senior Adam Gutman of Cornell commented. “It was a pretty tight game and it was very physical play. Albany had a couple of big plays and came out with the win, but all and all Cornell showed promise this game. We are a very young team and we are progressing.”
In the Buffalo it was a perfect day for rugby and a beautiful backdrop for another Buffalo win. Buffalo defeated Brockport 19 – 7, with a halftime score of 12 – 0.
The first thirty minutes Buffalo played beautiful rugby, but made a few mistakes the following minutes and let Brockport get close, who was missing one of their integral players this week.
Try scorers for Buffalo were Tom Ryan with two tries and #8 Matt Agugliaro with one.
Binghamton manhandled Canisius 41-8, the difference being equated to fitness levels. Canisius was first to put the points on the board, but with a halftime score of 19-8 Binghamton, the Crabbies simply never got back up.
Lead scorer for the Binghamton team is currently Brian Pinto, who did not disappoint this week by adding three tries to his collection.
