The action was scheduled for Sunday this week in the state of New York. A day of rest it was not, this Sunday was a day of battle.

Buffalo visited Syracuse. Both were undefeated thus far in the season, and both were ready to defend their records.

Syracuse prevailed, beating Buffalo 47-7. Ecstatic with the win, coach Bob Wilson attributed the victory to the weather, a sunny 75 degrees in October, and the Hammerheads control in the front game.

“We were expecting a close game, but some times things flow for you. It was a kicking game, and our control up front was the platform for the win,” Wilson told ARN.

Try-scorers for Syracuse included Franco (2), Brian Goldstein (2), and Derrick Chafin, Steve Patch and Tim Ferro all with singles.

“In the end, they were the better team,” said Buffalo head coach Mickey McGuire. “Syracuse played well today, staying in their system and sticking to their plan.”

Not to be overlooked, Buffalo has consistently been one of the strongest teams in the NYS conference for six years running. A fact that is respected conference-wide.

At home, Binghamton was beaten by Brockport 61-8. The half time score was 40-8. It was a physical, hard-hitting game that Brockport led, dominating the rucks.

“We worked hard all week on our defense and it paid off,” Brockport head coach Mike Hodgins told ARN.

Try-scorers included Damian Flint and Travis Pufpaff.

Canisius was at home against Albany, but lost by a thundering 57-0 margin.

John Durant of Albany said that Canisius never gave up. “It was a good day for us. I played some of our younger guys and the experience was great for them.”

Two of these guys were Phillipe Ayroh, the scrumhalf, with two tries, and Jack Reisman who completed the game with six conversions.

With this win, Albany is getting closer and closer to their spot in the championship tournament. “If we win the next two, we will have a pretty good shot,” said Durant.

Not bad for a team who moved from Division II to Division I only a handful of games ago.

Elsewhere, Cornell lost to Cortland (score is unreported).

Standings (unofficial):
Syracuse (5-0)
Buffalo (4-1)
Binghamton (3-2)
Albany (3-2)
Brockport (3-2)
Cornell (1-4)
Cortland (1-4)
Canisius (0-5)
