The Kings Point side controlled things from the outset and racked up an insurmountable 67-0 halftime lead. That buffer allowed them to use all their substitutes in the second frame. The win clinched the White Division’s top spot.

Hooker Nick Rall, one of USMMA’s try scorers, had an outstanding game for his team, as did skipper Peter Moser, who also kept level heads on the field despite the blowout.

“We have to give a lot of credit to Hofstra, they broke our try line twice,” USMMA head coach Anthony Connors told ARN. “They weren’t just kicking penalties to avoid the shutout.”

At the same time, Columbia beat Vassar 46-7 in the game to decide top spot in the Red Division. Columbia led narrowly 10-7 at halftime but then blew the game open in the second forty.

“It was a cracking game,” Vassar head coach Tony Brown told ARN. “They got in behind us in the second half and ripped us apart. It was an old fashioned thumping.”

Elsewhere, Rutgers’ impressive run was halted by Army’s ‘B’ team in a close one with the Black Knights stopping the Black Death 27-24. Rutgers flanker Ryan Hill scored twice, while eightman Frank Voris and flyhalf Johannes Cronje each added a single to keep their team in the hunt. Army led 17-10 at the break.

As a result of Sunday’s games, USMMA will play Columbia in next week’s Met New York championship decider. The winner will advance to the Northeast Rugby Union DI quarterfinals the following week.

Meantime, the scheduled Western Conference game between Colorado State and Air Force was cancelled because of snow in the Rocky Mountains. It was the second consecutive CSU game that had to be rescheduled. Last week’s fixture against Colorado suffered the same fate because of a heavy front that moved in.

That game has been rescheduled for this coming Wednesday night.
