Reigning Super League champions San Francisco Golden Gate warmed up for next week’s start to the RSL season with a tough 31-29 win against the previously unbeaten Olympic Club in a non-league match.

The result snapped Olympic’s six-game win streak.

SFGG jumped out to a handy 24-8 halftime lead and then had to withstand a furious comeback by the O-Club.

"They play with a ton of width and have some serious firepower out wide,” said Olympic Club head coach Ray Lehner. “Mili and Seta were a handful for us.

"We needed to play our very best to beat them and we didn’t. To the contrary we got behind the 8-ball early and just didn’t get enough done before the final whistle."

Chris Gurecki, Kevin Herrera, Jon Kollerer and Kort Schubert got on the board for the O-Club.

In Northern California League play, the Sacramento Capitals were way too good for San Mateo winning 62-12.

The Caps led 33-5 at the half and eventually tallied nine tries, three of which were scored by Andrew Goodall. Marko Manenica (2), Taylor McKillop (2), Sam Britton and Kali Afu were the other try-scorers.

“Like last week, the conditions were mud underfoot and our defensive systems were solid,” Sacramento Capitals head coach Ben Parker told ARN.

“This week we took another step forward with players getting reward for running the attack moves and keeping to the patterns.”

Other NorCal League results:
Bay Area Barbarians 29-13 Reno
Sacramento Lions 73-19 East Palo Alto

In the Texas League, the Austin Blacks topped the Austin Huns 9-0 in a local derby. Zach Triplett kicked three penalty goals for the Blacks in a defensive struggle.

Elsewhere, HARC kept its undefeated streak alive with a close 24-21 victory over Shreveport.

Meantime, in the South, Nashville decided to skip the trip to Atlanta and forfeited to Old White. The 33-0 win assures Old White the #3 seed in South's North Division.

On March 20, Old White will travel to Florida to face the #2 seed from the South's South Division in the crossover challenge against either Boca Raton or Miami.

And in a season opening 'friendly' in Denver, the Highlanders beat the Air Force Academy 45-33.
