There were no major surprises in the men’s Division I Round of 16 Saturday, although as we predicted, the Olympic Club - Glendale match was a dead set humdinger.

The Raptors ended up winning 8-7 and live to fight another day, while it was the end of the road for the O-Club in 2009.

Elsewhere, the Atlanta Renegades put paid to Old Blue’s DI national title aspirations with a thumping 37-10 victory in Columbia, SC.

Roderigus Ceasar was the star of the Gades’ show scoring four tries to cap an outstanding day.

“We wanted to get on top early and we did, we shut them down in the first half,” Atlanta Renegades coach Rod Seddon told ARN. “I’m proud of the boys.”

Pearl City was a big 43-0 winner against New Haven, while Aspen did a number on the Provo Steelers winning 25-5.

Las Vegas beat HARC 20-5 in a mudbath in Austin, TX, after heavy rain delayed the start of the game.

The Vegas forwards dominated a sloppy game, particularly in the second half, and when they managed to get the ball out to their backs that’s where the damage was done.

“Absolutely pleased to win because it was such a tough day due to the conditions,” Las Vegas captain Tom Carter told ARN.

Other winners included Los Angeles, Atlanta Old White and the Detroit Tradesmen.

Round of 16 results:
Glendale Raptors 8-7 Olympic Club
Las Vegas 20-5 HARC
Atlanta Old White 23-19 Media
Pearl City 43-0 New Haven
Aspen 25-5 Provo Steelers
Los Angeles 23-0 Shreveport
Atlanta Renegades 37-10 Old Blue
Detroit Tradesmen 25-15 Mystic River

Those results have set up some interesting quarterfinals on Sunday with Glendale playing Las Vegas, Atlanta Old White facing Pearl City, Los Angeles tackling Aspen and the Atlanta Renegades going up against the Detroit Tradesmen.
