The Atlanta Renegades will be hosting their first annual Wounded Warriors tournament, benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project and Paws4vets on Saturday, October 9, 2010, in Atlanta, GA.

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded American military servicemen and women (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org)

Paws4vets trains and provides service or assistance dogs to American military veterans, active duty personnel or their dependents in need of such assistance (http://www.paws4vets.org)

The tournament will be held at the Atlanta Silverbacks Park, an excellent modern facility with a FieldTurf® surface, with the finals of each bracket being played in the approximately 5,000 seat stadium.

There will be entertainment and concessions available throughout the day.

The tournament will have four brackets - Premier, Military, Collegiate and High School - with four teams competing in each bracket and each team playing two matches.

“The Renegades are seeking the most competitive teams we can field in each bracket with a focus first on teams from outside of our local area,” said Renegades spokesman Jeff Timmons.

“We hope the tournament will serve as a venue for teams to compete against top quality competition, against clubs with which they may not normally have an opportunity to compete.”

Teams that already have agreed to compete in the tournament include Marine sides from Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune and an Army team from Fort Benning in the Military bracket, Charlotte in the Premier bracket (along with the Renegades), as well as their Charlotte Rugby Academy side in the High School bracket and the University of North Carolina in the Collegiate bracket.

Discussions are continuing with several other invited teams that have expressed interest.
