‘War at the Shore’ - one of the main showcase events of the American National Rugby League - is on again this Saturday, but with some major differences to previous years.

In the past, AMNRL teams played league matches that counted towards the final standings; however, this year’s format takes on a vastly different look.

Teams, including a Canadian representative side, will be playing shortened games and will be vying for the Robert Preston Memorial Rugby League Challenge Cup.

Matches in the preliminary rounds will consist of two 10-minute halves with games in the championship bracket being two 15-minute half contests.

Teams set to compete include the New York Knights, Philadelphia Fight, Aston Bulls, Connecticut Wildcats, Boston 13s, Canadian Mounties, Washington (DC Slayers/Fairfax Eagles), and the New England Immortals (13s/Wildcats/New Haven Warriors).

There will also be an Exhibition Sevens game featuring the Chicago Stockyarders and Northern Raiders.

All matches will be played under regular Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) rules.

A host of fan activities are planned throughout the day starting with a kid’s rugby clinic, plus skills and drills challenges, the AMNRL Speedo 40 yard Sprint Challenge and a Miss War at the Shore contest.

And on top of that, there will be a party in the park ‘til dark starting after the championship final has been decided.

War at the Shore XIII is expected to draw good crowds and the event, as always, will be held in Sea Isle City, NJ, with non-stop rugby league action from 11a through 6p (Eastern).
