The US had an early exit on day three of the Hong Kong Sevens going down narrowly 24-21 to archrivals Canada in the Plate quarterfinals.

It was the fourth time this season that the two North American teams have faced off. The US held a small 2-1 advantage over the Canadians going into the contest, but they’re all even now following the quarterfinal showdown.

“Canada has compiled a tough team,” US head coach Al Caravelli said before the game. “They will not be easy by any means. We are definitely looking to raise the bar and continue to press the envelope each time we take the field.”

New Zealand Sevens juggernaut continued on its way as Gordon Tietjens' side captured a first Hong Kong Sevens title since 2001 to extend its record winning streak to 42 matches and seven consecutive Series titles.

New Zealand's 26-12 victory against South Africa in the Hong Kong final gave them another 30 points for the series, extending their lead over closest rivals South Africa to 38 points and all but close out their Series defense.
