France extended the USA's pain in Dubai by inflicitng a 22-12 defeat of the Americans Saturday in the Bowl quarterfinals of the first leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.

After going 0-3 on day one, the US had hopes of making amends against the French but it wasn't to be.

The US finally got into the winner's circle later in the day, however, by beating Scotland 17-14 in the Shield semifinals.

The Americans will face the Arabian Gulf in the Shield final. The Arabian Gulf team knocked off Georgia 22-12 in the other semi.

Meantime, the US women's team lost 17-7 to the Saudex Wooden Spoon side in the semifinals of the women's bracket.

Prior to the game, US women's coach Julie McCoy said too many missed tackles was a problem that needed to be fixed.

"I know the players are eager to prove to our fans that all the training we have done is paying off,” said McCoy.
