The New York AC has clinched a playoff berth by winning the White Conference with a 40-point pounding of Philadelphia-Whitemarsh in the latest round of matches.

NYAC defeated Philly 60-20 and was paced to the win by Shawn Rafferty, who scored a hat-trick of tries.

Justin Hundley and James Denise were big contributors for the AC, each scoring a pair of tries.

“We got a lot of guys some 'A' side game time so from that standpoint there were some positives,” NYAC head coach Mike Tolkin told ARN. “We overcame a sloppy start, and we clinched our division and that was pleasing.”

Elsewhere in the conference, the Dallas Harlequins battled it out against the Boston Irish Wolfhounds in Dallas with both teams searching desperately for a win. The game was a tight one with Dallas finishing ahead by a try, winning 22-15.

In the Red Conference, OMBAC and the return of several US Sevens players back in their lineup proved too much for Denver. The San Diego side handed the Barbos their second loss of the season, with a 43-17 final.

The result of Saturday’s match now places the two teams in a four-way tie in the conference’s win-loss standings with other RSL heavyweights Belmont Shore and San Francisco Golden Gate at 4-2, setting the scene for a battle to the finish next weekend as teams aim to advance to the playoffs.

“We knew they’d be a tough team, with all of the Sevens players back in town. We got a little too loose and turned the ball over too many times. OMBAC is a strong squad and they’re very punishing when you make mistakes,” said Denver Barbarians head coach Dave Hodges. “Next week, we’ll need as many points as we can get in order to make it to the playoffs.”

Denver finishes its regular season at home against Old Puget Sound Beach, while OMBAC travels to Long Beach to meet a tough test against defending champs Belmont Shore.

Shore heads into their last regular season match following a 39-10 defeat of Santa Monica. Following its second straight loss, Santa Monica now finds itself near the bottom of the conference.

SFGG upped its value in the Red Conference with a very convincing 58-7 win over OPSB. “I was really happy with the way we moved the ball,” Golden Gate’s head coach Paul Keeler said. “I was happy to get the points and stay on track to make the playoffs. Mose Timoteo really kept things going for us today. He was our captain and really had a huge game.”

San Francisco has never missed an RSL postseason, and after getting off to a rough start, has really come back strong to be in the midst of contention.

After handing the visiting St Louis Bombers a 36-15 defeat, Boston continues its undefeated season and holds strong at the top of the Blue Conference heading into the final week of the regular season. Boston, which sits at 5-0-1 after a draw against Old Blue in the season opener, looks to add one more win to its near perfect record, as it hosts PAC next weekend.

Despite PAC’s slight 12-10 edge leading into the half, the week seven meeting between PAC and Old Blue resulted in a 25-25 draw. Old Blue capitalized on some second half errors by the steadily developing PAC side and a late offensive surge saw the New York team score two tries in the final ten minutes of the game, including one at the bitter end to even the score before the whistle.

“It’s been that type of season for us – we had our moments of brilliant rugby out there, but we also endured moments of poor rugby,” PAC head coach Peter Baggetta said. “I have to give credit to Old Blue for hanging in there and coming back to tie it up at the end.”

The Chicago Lions match against Washington was postponed due to weather and airport delays and will be rescheduled for May 10, while Charlotte also had difficulty getting into the Windy City to face the Chicago Griffins and they also had to reschedule.
