The game started well for the USA and several early attacks looked promising.
Unfortunately, the Americans then had a six minute lapse in concentration that resulted in England scoring three tries, all in the corners. The game settled down for twenty minutes until England scored a fourth try in injury time.
The second half saw England score four more tries before the USA answered with a try of its own in the 67th minute by Brittany Rose. The conversion by Cat Parkhill made the final score 40-7.
“The team came out strong, but unfortunately lost their concentration in key situations,” said USA U20 head coach Bryn Chivers.
“You’re never happy with this sort of score, but I thought there were things we did well today. The forwards more than held their own with the very physical England pack, and that bodes well for the upcoming game against Canada.”
Wales beat Canada in the day’s other game and a USA win or tie against Canada on Wednesday, July 15, could put them through to the final if England beat Wales in their final game.
